BACKGROUND:
EMTEQUE Corporation was retained by
Reckson Associates Realty Corporation to perform an asbestos survey inspection
of the entire Pilgrim State Psychiatric Center located in Brentwood, NY.
The scope of the survey included the inspection of approximately 70 facilities,
which ranged from two-story housing units, to four-story treatment facilities
and hospitals. The total area surveyed was approximately 3.5 million square
feet of space, along with miles of pipe utility tunnels running throughout
the facility. At the completion of the survey, EMTEQUE prepared cost estimates
for the removal of all asbestos-containing materials and the subsequent
demolition of the structures. This information was instrumental in the
preparation of the winning bid, which was submitted by Reckson Associates
to the Empire State Development Corporation for the acquisition of the
property. EMTEQUE Corporation will assist Reckson Associates in the redevelopment
of this site, which is projected to occur in 2001.
